Woodchester is an ideal centre for many excursions.

The local countryside is very beautiful, with soft gentle hills and valleys and higher up the more exposed areas of Selsley and Minchinhampton commons. Uley Bury and Cam Long Down are popular view points with stunning views over the River Severn. Ideal for day-time walks, there are plenty of local pubs offering light refreshment and a rest.

The area has many local attractions to visit. Woodchester mansion, close by, is a 19th century building deserted during construction. It has been renovated, but will never be finished. Slimbridge Wildfowl trust offers a day of entertainment; numerous birds to feed and watch, a restaurant, shop and visitor centre packed with interesting information and artworks. Westonbirt arboretum is one of the finest collections of trees and shrubs in the world; over 18,000 specimens and 17 miles of waymarked paths.

These are just a few examples; details of other attractions may be found in the main hall.

Gloucester, Cheltenham, Bristol and Bath are all readily accessible for those who enjoy towns and cities. Each offers a variety of historic features as well as shops, theatres and restaurants.
